The main biomechanical characteristic of toe walking is the absence of initial heel contact with the ground or its premature toe-off [9,17]. If this pattern is maintained, orthopedic consequences may appear [5,15,16,18-21], such as limited dorsal flexion of the ankle [15,16,18,21]; pain, stumbling [15,18] and sprains [5]; a less efficient gait [5,16]; lower performance in sports; low levels of physical exercise; or postural and social problems [19]. In adulthood, toe walking has been associated with plantar fasciitis [15], hindfoot valgus or flat feet [21].
The present study was approved by the research committee of the Faculty of Nursing, Physiotherapy and Podiatry of the Complutense University of Madrid and by the ethics committee of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos of Madrid.
Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS v. 22.0. For the descriptive analysis of the experts and the panel results, the absolute and relative percentage frequencies were calculated for the qualitative variables. For quantitative variables, the mean and range were used.
